A Letter from YNPN Chicago's Incoming Board Chair and Vice Chair

Updated: Sep 16, 2020

Dear YNPN Chicago community,

YNPN Chicago is now accepting applications for board service! If you’re passionate about supporting young professionals’ growth, dedicated to strengthening the nonprofit sector, and are unwaveringly committed to centering equity in your work, consider joining us in the coming year.

The past few months have tested our country’s institutional resiliency and magnified their weaknesses. We recognize that power imbalances persist in our country and in our sector. And in the next year, YNPN Chicago is doubling down in our efforts to create an inclusive space for our network and work toward dismantling oppressive systems. As two women of color, we are excited to lead YNPN Chicago as we work to diversify the board and network. We’re kicking these efforts off with our next virtual session, Race to Lead: What it Means to be a Person of Color in the Nonprofit Sector!

If this type of sector-wide collaboration, discussion, and work invigorates you and you’re excited by the challenge, help us thoughtfully shape it by joining the board. We’re actively looking for individuals with diverse ideas, backgrounds, opinions, networks, and strengths to help support our mission. On behalf of the entire YNPN Chicago board, we are beyond excited to meet you and engage in meaningful dialogue. The YNPN board furthers personal and professional development and we push each other to work toward a more equitable society.

Still not sure what board service is, or not quite sure if it’s for you? Please reach out to us. We would be thrilled to chat about our experience on the board and discuss what role you could see yourself in.

Onward,

Miriam Kamya, Incoming Board Chair & Julissa Cruz, Incoming Vice Chair
