Race to Lead: What it Means to be a Person of Color in the Nonprofit Sector

The nonprofit sector is experiencing a true racial leadership gap. In 2017, Building the Movement conducted the Nonprofits, Leadership, and Race survey and interviewed over 4,000 respondents. Results from the survey found that for the last 15 years, people of color accounted for under 20% of Executive Director/CEO positions in nonprofits, despite comprising nearly 40% of the U.S. population.

This program will be an opportunity for people of color within the YNPN Chicago community to come together and share their experiences. We will have varying discussion prompts about current events, DEIC work, workplace dynamics and career advancement.

The program will begin with introductions and then there will be Zoom breakout groups facilitated by YNPN Board Members. The program will end with a group discussion. This will be a great opportunity to network and find community within the sector.
