Job Title: Resilience AmeriCorps VISTA

Cities of Service is seeking two AmeriCorps VISTA members to serve in Chicago City Hall starting in Summer 2017. Both positions will report directly to Chicago’s Chief Resilience Officer.
Launched in January of 2016, the Cities of Service Resilience AmeriCorps program trains and supports AmeriCorps VISTA members to help communities prepare for catastrophic events and ongoing challenges. Serving in city halls, VISTAs engage citizens and community partners to build and sustain resilience in vulnerable neighborhoods. Cities participating in the Cities of Service Resilience AmeriCorps program are Anchorage, Ala., Boulder, Colo., Chicago, Ill., El Paso, Texas, Minot, N.D., New Orleans, La., Norfolk, Va., Pittsburgh, Pa., Phoenix, Ariz., and Tulsa, Okla.
The City of Chicago Resilience AmeriCorps VISTA Members will implement impact volunteering and community engagement initiatives that target sustainability and resilience. Responsibilities will include: plan and implement impact volunteering projects that enhance resilience in low-income communities; conduct community outreach to hear residents’ concerns on resilience and preparedness; cultivate partnerships among stakeholders who can build capacity, serve as volunteers, and increase support for resilience work in low-income communities; develop and/or implement resilience and community development strategies and programs benefiting low-income residents; and conduct community training and develop a volunteer network to support long-term outreach.

This is a full-time, one-year position compensated by a modest living allowance. After completion of service, VISTAs are eligible for the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award. A bachelor’s degree is required.
