About the event
At YNPN Chicago, we recognize that we still have a long way to ensure that our current network and members are racially diverse. YNPN Chicago is doubling down on our efforts to create an inclusive space for the individuals in our network. The nonprofit sector is experiencing a true racial leadership gap. Results from a 2017 survey found that for the last 15 years, people of color accounted for under 20% of Executive Director/CEO positions in nonprofits, despite comprising nearly 40% of the U.S. population.
We are working to ensure that Black, Indigenous, and people of color feel that this is a network that welcomes them, acknowledges their unique experience working for non-profits, and offers programming that is valuable to their professional development. This March, we will be launching the Creating Space Initiative and will host networking events every other month on Monday evenings from March - September, for those who identify as Black, Indigenous, and/or a person of color.
What’s the goal? As previously stated, we are working to make YNPN Chicago a more inclusive space. We are creating space for the groups listed above to come together and share experiences, thoughts and ideas. This will allow individuals to build a sense of community rooted in their common identities. As YNPN Chicago continues to grow, we want to make sure that our network is reflective of Chicago’s diverse community.
