What are the expectations for Executive Board directors?
Executive Board directors commit to one or two years of service, during which time each director should expect to spend an average of at least ten hours per month on YNPN-related activities. Executive Board directors must attend monthly board meetings and participate regularly in YNPN events and activities. Each board director also works independently and collaboratively outside of scheduled meetings to complete the responsibilities of their position. Directors may reapply to the Executive Board at the end of their term.

What are the qualifications of Executive Board directors?
We are looking for nonprofit professionals who possess:
  • passion for the development and potential of YNPN Chicago and the nonprofit sector
  • willingness and ability to contribute time and energy to the advancement of the organization
  • strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • ability to work well both independently and on a team
  • creativity, initiative, responsibility, and organizational skills

In addition to the above criteria, Chairpersons should also possess:
  • a track record of leadership and success in the nonprofit or related field
  • experience with organizational development and strategic planning
  • experience supervising, managing and motivating individuals and groups
  • skills and experiences relevant to their specific area

Executive Board participation is a fantastic opportunity for anyone interested in getting more involved in the Chicago nonprofit community, helping to shape a new and growing organization, and working to build a stronger sector. Board participation is a chance to grow personally and professionally, to develop skills, experience and connections that will aid in your career development and to be part of a team of other fun, passionate, motivated young people!

What is the application process?
YNPN Chicago recruits new board members at the end of summer each year. Applications, which include a resume and personal statement, are usually due in late August. Returning board members screen new applicants, conduct interviews, and select new board members by October.
