Marissa Filippo
Executive Assistant, Dental Assisting National Board
 
Marissa currently serves as an Executive Assistant to the Executive Director at the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB), an organization which provides credentialing services to the dental community. Marissa has nearly ten years of experience working in nonprofits in Chicago and has been involved in programs related to public education, nonprofit management support and professional development training. Marissa maintains an interest in film and the arts and has taught Humanities at Harold Washington College, one of the City Colleges of Chicago. Marissa earned a B.A. in English from the University of Illinois and an M.A. in Interdisciplinary Humanities from Arizona State University.



Steve Strang

Steve is currently a consultant with Spectrum Nonprofit Services focusing on revenue, strategy and sustainable structure.  His previous work history also includes working for Donors Forum, University of Chicago and the American Red Cross.  He grew up in a small town in Mid-Michigan and attended Grand Valley State University.  Additionally, he received his M.P.A. at Roosevelt University with a Nonprofit Administration emphasis.  In his free time he enjoys keeping his handicap down in golf and you can always find Steve out enjoying the Lincoln Square neighborhood.

Steve was previously the YNPN Chicago Technology Chair and National Liaison and presented at the YNPN National Conference in 2011 and 2012.

Katie Anthony
Candidate, Master of Public Policy, University of Chicago Harris School of
Public Policy Studies


Katie is currently studying at the University of Chicago’s Harris School of Public Policy for her Master’s degree. She is hoping to work on issues facing the City of Chicago, including how to increase civic engagement, which she believes can be advanced by fostering strategic cross-sector collaboration. For seven years Katie worked in the nonprofit sector in positions primarily focused on the intersection between education and health care. Currently she is an active volunteer with various organizations including the Chicago Public Schools, the Junior League of Chicago, the Harris School’s Public Policy Student Association, and her alma mater Carleton College.


 
Heather Greenwell
Director of Consulting, Executive Service Corps

Prior to joining ESC, Heather worked as the National Manager of Research and Development at the Jane Goodall Institute (JGI) where she oversaw the development, evaluation, and measurement of JGI’s national youth programs. Committed to cross-cultural cooperation and learning, Heather worked as an Art and Literacy teacher on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, was a member of the US Delegation to the Central American Workers Summit in San Salvador, El Salvador, and was a member of the Interfaith Delegation to His All Holiness the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople and New Rome in Istanbul, Turkey. Heather graduated with a Master of Divinity in Social Justice and Cross Cultural Ministry from the Catholic Theological Union.

Alnierys Venegas
Housing Support Specialist, 
Trilogy Behavioral Healthcare

Alnierys  received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Arts – Media Studies from North Park University. She has developed her marketing, outreach, interpersonal communication, and leadership skills at social service agencies such as the YWCA, Red Cross of Greater Chicago, and currently, at Trilogy Behavioral Healthcare. She began her career at Trilogy as a Latino Services Coordinator which provided her the opportunity to oversee the development of their Latino Services Program. Alnierys is now working on a city housing project with the agency. Alnierys is passionate about being a much needed leader and educator in the Latino community. She serves as the Programming Co-Chair with the YNPN Executive Board. Her interest lies in diversity, inclusion, and multicultural programming.

 
Alexis Kelin
Talen Acquisition Specialist, Gateway Foundation

Alexis Klein-Ruiz has been recruiting in the Chicago nonprofit sector since 2010. In her current role as a Talent Acquisition Specialist at Gateway Foundation, she is responsible for managing the hiring process of up to 60 positions at a time for programs in 4 different states. Previously, as a Recruiter at the staffing firm Careers In Nonprofits, she had the opportunity to work with many other Chicago organizations, ranging from small start-ups to iconic institutions, and everything in between. Placing candidates in positions from entry-level to executive management has given her invaluable insight and expertise in the many functions, structures, and roles at the staff level of various NPOs, which she now applies to the national scale of Gateway’s 1200-employee organization.
During her career, Alexis has conducted hundreds of interviews and reviewed thousands of resumes, and thoroughly enjoys sharing her expertise with job seekers to better prepare them to get the nonprofit job they are looking for.

Soukprida Phetmisy
Associate, District and School Partnerships, Teach for America - Chicago

Soukprida graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design, where she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Writing and Arts Administration. She has worked extensively in radio journalism, new media and education and has since been seeking avenues to merge these interests into one. As one of five selected participants in NPR’s Next Generation Radio project in 2008, she was able to explore issues in cultural identities based on accents and community,  a project that propelled her into the nonprofit sector and her passion toward educational equity. Since moving to Chicago in 2010, she has been an active member in the nonprofit, education and arts communities, and hopes to continue working in these sectors expansively.


Brittany Martin Graunke 

Founder & CEO of Zealous Good

Brittany founded Zealous Good, a website that connects people with extra goods to donate to local charities with matching needs. Brittany studied Industrial Engineering at Northwestern University and began her career at Bain & Company as a strategic business consultant. Brittany left Bain to pursue a career change to the non-profit arena. She joined the United Way of Metropolitan Chicago as a strategic engagement manager, where she realized the need for a more efficient process for matching donated goods with non-profit organizations. Shortly thereafter, Zealous Good was born in Chicago and since then Brittany has been focused on making the in-kind donation process easier, faster and more meaningful.

Huilan Jin
Candidate, Master of Public Administration, Illinois Institute of Technology 

Huilan has always been interested in personal development and sustainability for nonprofits which led her to join YNPN Chicago. She is actively involved in various non-profit organizations in Chicago including Illinois Education Foundation and Chinese American Service League. She worked for the City Clerk’s Office for the past summer and is currently an intern at Girls in the Game and All Stars Project of Chicago. She is a second year candidate of Master in Public Administration at IIT Stuart School of Business and holds a Bachelor of Law from East China University of Political Science and Law in Shanghai, China.

Lilah Handler
Program Manager, IL Maternal & Child Health Coalition

Lilah has been working in the public health field for over 5 years. She is the main coordinator for all of the IMCHC projects which entails organizing meetings, conferences, and fundraisers. Lilah has been a huge advocate for women and children’s health for the majority of her life. Her passion and interest in health disparities and providing affordable and accessible health care for all has led her to a career in public health. She received a BA from Columbia College in Fine Arts.


 
Lauren King
Research Administrator, Children's Research Triangle

Lauren has worked as the Research Administrator at Children's Research Triangle for over three years. Previously she taught Diversity and Community Engagement to graduate students at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, where she earned her Masters degree in Forensic Psychology. She earned her Bachelors degree in psychology and criminal justice from Bradley University. Currently she is the Celebrations Co-Chair on the YNPN Executive Board and is part of the 2012 Class of the ESC/YNPN Chicago Leadership Institute. Lauren credits her father's military service and her mother's social service career with teaching her to value the non-profit sector. Although she loves working with people, she considers a few hours volunteering at an animal shelter as the ultimate way to escape and relax.

Lindsey Fila
Director of Administration, Resolution Systems Institute

Lindsey serves as the Director of Administration at Resolution Systems Institute (RSI), a Chicago-based non-profit that strengthens justice by enhancing court alternative dispute resolution systems throughout Illinois and the nation. In this role, she provides all administrative support to the organization, maintains RSI’s financial records, and assists with development and marketing. Lindsey received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and plans to continue her education in the future. She is experienced in non-profit administration and is an avid member of the non-profit community. Lindsey is committed to working collaboratively with other passionate people to identify community problems and devise innovative solutions to help those most in need. She has strong convictions, and she is excited to spread her ideals and effect social change by serving on the board of YNPN.

 
Julia Kepler
Operations and Development Associate, Public Interest Law Initiative (PILI)

Julia currently works as the Operations and Development Associate for the Public Interest Law Initiative (PILI), an organization that cultivates a lifelong commitment to public interest law through its many program initiatives for law students and law professionals.  Before PILI, Julia served as the Office Manager and Assistant to the Executive Director for Congregation Bnei Ruven. In this position, Julia had responsibility for all aspects of office operations for one of the largest synagogues in Chicago. Prior to moving to Chicago, Julia interned with the Clifton Cultural Arts Center in Cincinnati, Ohio where she worked closely with the Executive Director on fundraising, administrative tasks and curating projects. Julia attended Ohio University and obtained her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art History with a certificate in Women’s Studies.Julia maintains a strong love for the arts and seeks creative outlets through selling her hand-knit goods on the side at local craft fairs and taking in Chicago's creative energy. In an effort to enhance her knowledge and ability to serve her community, she is currently pursuing a Master of Public Administration with a focus in Nonprofit Management, and working as the Graduate Assistant for the Public Administration and Political Science Departments at Roosevelt University.

Divya Mohan Little
Communications and Project Director, IL Maternal & Child Health Coalition


Divya serves as both Communications Director for the Illinois Maternal and Child Health Coalition (IMCHC) and the Project Director for the Coalition for School Health Centers. Divya also serves as the Communications Chair for the YNPN Chicago Board of Directors. Prior to moving to Chicago, Divya worked for the National Assembly on School-Based Health Care , as Communications Director.She has almost ten years of non-profit and communications experience, including positions at the National Trust for Historic Preservation and Epoch Communications. Divya received her Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and Journalism from Washington & Lee University and her Master of Arts in Communication from George Mason University.

Dan Gould
Associate Director for Alumni Relations, Loyola University Chicago

Dan Gould is currently Associate Director for Alumni Relations at Loyola University Chicago. Dan joined the Loyola team in November of 2010 after working for several years in the Chicago non-profit sector. At Loyola, he works on building relationships with Colleges, Schools and Centers of Excellence in addition to assisting with communication and marketing strategies, focusing on social media. Dan holds an undergraduate degree in English and Music Performance from the University of Iowa and a master’s degree in Education from DePaul University. Dan is also a musician in his spare time, preferring the bassoon and accordion.

 
Katie Pieper
SCSEP Program Operations Manager, Easter Seals

Katie currently works as the Program Operations Manager for the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) with Easter Seals, Inc. From an early age, Katie has been genuinely motivated to empower others and present a voice for invisible and overlooked communities. This passion was first stimulated by the experiences of student peers in the North Carolina public school system, and has since expanded through experiences as a union organizer, juvenile public defender, employment program administrator, student government leader, and other community-focused leadership opportunities. Katie is a graduate of Grinnell College and the University of Illinois College of Law. Prior to working on SCSEP, Katie worked summers at the Mississippi Center for Justice in Biloxi MS, and the Evanston Community Defender Office in Evanston, IL. Since 2008, Katie has lived in Chicago and has had the privilege of getting paid to think about ways Easter Seals offices can assist in moving vulnerable older adults out of poverty and into economic independence.
