YNPN Chicago’s Nonprofit Professional of the Year, Francisco Ramirez

Tell us about your role.

I am the Regional Manager at buildOn, a service learning organization whose mission is to break the cycle of poverty, illiteracy and low expectations through service and education. I coach and support a team that runs programming across 11 partner high schools and who empower our youth to change the world through service.

How long have you been involved with YNPN Chicago?

I recently became involved with YNPN Chicago and look forward to continuing to be a part of the great work they do.

Why do you like working in the nonprofit sector?

The main reason I enjoy working in the nonprofit sector is because every day I know I am making a difference. This sector allows me to combine my skill set and work to serve others.

What is your favorite place in Chicago?

A great place is the corner of Sacramento and Milwaukee Ave. in Logan Square where the best homemade tamales are sold every morning – her tamales verdes are the best!

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

I was told to follow my passion and if I continually hate waking up and going to work, then change it.
